Rhein-Nahe-Eck Bingen

The permanent dampness and the recurring flooding were the two main problems for which a solution had to be found with the installation of the new illumination at “Rhein-Nahe-Eck” and an adjacent cyclist bridge in Bingen. Lighting solutions by FLASHAAR®  were selected in the end. Decisive for this choice were the low maintenance, longevity and the substantial energy-savings potential of the products.

The “Rhein-Nahe-Eck” is the entrance to the World Heritage Site “Mittelrheintal”. Here is where the Nahe River flows into Germany‘s largest river, the Rhine. For the opening of the State Garden Festival 2008 in Bingen, the “Eck” received a new appearance and a new illumination.

The latter was to trace the architecture and liven up the structures of the square. The same demands were made on the stairs leading to the bank. At the same time, the illumination of the stairs was also supposed to increase the safety of the pedestrians. The adjacent cyclist bridge across the Nahe River also received a new illumination. An optically appealing ambience with sufficient brightness for added safety was also demanded here.

The challenge was the same for both projects: The geographic location is complicated because the rivers emit lots of dampness and because the site is located in a region with frequent flooding. Every change of the lamps carries the danger of the illuminants no longer being water-tight. This is why an illuminant with a very long service life was required in order to have to perform as little maintenance work as possible. In addition, it was also supposed to consume very little energy.

Lamps with LED modules for installation in the ground perfectly meet these demands and also have a low surface temperature of the illuminants as well as small, unobtrusive housings. The service life of the LED is more than 50,000 operating hours here.

Bright yet still economic

86 TALEXX modules P007 in warm white immerse the cyclist bridge in a friendly and glare-free bright light. Here LED modules with 2 Watt, 230 Volt and IP65 were installed. The label IP65 means that the light components are protected against the penetration of dirt and water. Among other things, the TALEXX modules P007 are especially suited for safety, warning and orientation lamps and were therefore the ideal solution for the bridge across the Nahe River. The largest possible radiation angle ensures even illumination, the low part height and the easy assembly also allows the installation in narrow beams, which was the case with the bridge in this project. The entire illumination for the bridge was realized with a connected load of only 176 Watt.

Colour rendering without falsification

With a colour rendition value of Ra > 85, the PowerLEDs by FLASHAAR® in the light colour warm white are ideally suited to adequately illuminate the wall of the stairs and highlight the natural stone ideally. Four PowerLEDs each were installed together with a spot lens and a groove lens in a ground installation lamp. Each of the ground installation lamps has a total output of only 4.8 Watt. The light strength of the PowerLED modules makes the product the ideal illuminant for this application.
